Vokolek Talks About his Commitment
Jan 29, 2017
As National Signing Day approaches, the Rutgers staff continues to solidify the 2017 class. With only a few days left, they added 6-foot-6 tight end Travis Vokolek. The Missouri native selected Rutgers over offers from Minnesota, Buffalo, and Wyoming.
"I selected Rutgers over a variety of schools, it came down to Wyoming and Rutgers but I also had offers from Minnesota army and Buffalo", stated Vokolek.
The decision came down to the opportunity presented at Rutgers and the relationship with built with the coaches and players.
"I chose Rutgers because this was simply an opportunity I just couldn't give up. The coaches are from the mid-west and I'm from the mid-west so we connect very well. I connected with the players when I was on my visit and I really get like I was at home on my visit", stated Vokolek.
Vokolek was supposed to visit Wyoming this weekend but he was compelled to make his decision and cancelled the visit to Wyoming.
""I was supposed to visit Wyoming but kind of had in mind that I was going to sign with Rutgers. I didn't want to waste any of the coaches’ time or money if I knew I wasn't going out there so out of respect we cancelled that trip", stated the big tightend.
Although Vokolek plays tight end, he also plays outside linebacker (OLB). His size and athleticism makes the potential of him playing OLB intriguing. However, Rutgers is recruiting him as a tight end. Vokolek has plans beyond playing tight end.
"I am a TE. My expectations are to come to Rutgers for a degree and to win a championship. I will do anything on or off the field to help make an impact on the team", stated Vokolak.
