The Scarlet Knights are in on one of the most intriguing local cornerbacks in the 2018 class.  New York's Jarrett Paul is gaining more and more interest every week and he says that he has very real interest of his own in RU.

"It's a good program," the Christ the King High School standout said of Rutgers. "Coach [Chris] Ash and his staff are changing the culture. [Defensive backs coach Bill] Busch is recruiting me and I like what he has to say. I know that I performed very well at their camp in the summer and I expect to get an offer from them sooner or later...I like how they make the defensive backs play. They make them play a lot of press man coverage, which I am fond of."

Paul tells Donald Forbes of StateOfRutgers.com that he is drawing interest from Syracuse, Boston College, Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Northwestern, Pittsburgh, Indiana, and Maryland in addition to RU.  Right now, Syracuse seems be showing the most interest in him "by far," though RU, Boston College, and Indiana are also in constant contact.

Last year, Paul got a taste of the Rutgers gameday experience when he was on hand for Rutgers' October showdown against Michigan State.  Although RU was not victorious that day, Paul left New Brunswick, New Jersey with a positive impression of the program.

When asked about what sets him apart from other cornerbacks in his class, Paul pointed to his well-rounded skill set and technique.

"I mirror receivers at the line of scrimmage well," the 6'1", 189 pound athlete said. "And I notice plays and react to them quickly."

Paul is obviously searching for a good football fit, but he's also seeking "a degree that holds a lot of weight in the real world."  In terms of football, Paul wants a program that will give him a significant role early on in his collegiate career and he wants to "have a great relationship with the defensive backs coach."

As of this writing, Paul has visited Rutgers, Syracuse, Penn State, Indiana, Maryland, and Boston College. He plans on visiting Rutgers again in November when they play Penn State.  This year, Paul says he aims to help his team to the AA championship and he is striving not to let anyone score on him.
