As compared to the 2016 New Jersey recruiting class, the 2017 class may not be as deep from top to bottom. However, the offensive and defensive linemen might have better overall talent.  Among the           notable members of the 2017 class is defensive lineman Owen Bowles.

The Cedar Creek High School (Egg Harbor, NJ) standout is just starting to tap into his talent.  Several schools have taken notice and have extended offers. Bowles’ offer list currently consists of Buffalo, Monmouth, Central Florida, Virginia, Temple and Rutgers.  The recruiting process has only just started for Bowles who has only visited Temple and Rutgers along with his teammate (and Rutgers legacy) Bo Melton.

Most schools are looking at Bowles (6-foot-4, 265 lbs.) as a defensive tackle.  This was the case when former Rutgers Head Coach Kyle Flood made the initial offer to Bowles at the Big Man Camp last year.  However, Rutgers’ current Head Coach Chris Ash is looking at Bowles as an offensive lineman. The change of position of focus or head coach does not bother Bowles.

“I’m fine with either side of the ball as long as I have a chance to play,” said Bowles.

Another reason for his interest in Rutgers is the approach of the current staff.  Bowles said, “The staff is real cool.  They’re energetic.  They’re into it and it’s not too far from home.  It’s an all-round good school.”

The spring evaluation period will be an important time for Bowles where he stated he’s going to take the time to review all of the schools before narrowing down the list.  There will be a number of things that will factor into his decision. Currently, distance doesn’t appear to be one of those factors. But Bowles mentioned his parents will play a prominent role in his decision and would like for him to choose a school closer to home.

“My parents will play a big part in my decision.  I always go to them for advice”, stated the versatile lineman.   “Also, academics will play a major role and so will winning.”

Although it is early, Bowles stated his top 3 schools are Rutgers, Temple and Virginia.
