SOR Staff Writer Gregg Snyder breaks down the efforts put forth by former Scarlet Knights currently making a living in the National Football League. Let's jump right into it.
Knight of the Week
On Sunday Night Football, Ray Rice and the Baltimore Ravens completed a regular season sweep of the Pittsburgh Steelers. Rice had 18 carries for 43 yards, including a 4 yard touchdown run in the third quarter. He also caught five passes for 43 yards in Baltimore’s 23-20 win. Rice is our Knight of the Week.
In arguably the most exciting game of the week in the NFL, the New York Giants topped Devin McCourty and the New England Patriots by a score of 24-20. McCourty was in his usual starting spot in the Patriots secondary and recorded six tackles (5 solo). The second year player also returned one kick off for 24 yards.
The New York Jets were happy about the Patriots loss as they had won earlier in the day. Jamaal Westerman started at outside linebacker for the Jets in the 27-11 win over the Buffalo Bills. Westerman recorded one tackle.
Gary Gibson did not start but played in a reserve role for the St. Louis Rams. Gibson recorded one assist in the Rams 19-13 overtime loss to the Arizona Cardinals.
The Indianapolis Colts are still winless, after being dominated by the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday. Rookie defensive back Joe Lefeged recorded one assist in the 31-7 loss. Lefeged returned three kickoffs for an average of 15 yards and returned one punt for one yard.
Anthony Davis started on the San Francisco 49ers offensive line in their 19-11 win over the Washington Redskins.
The Cincinnati Bengals kept pace with Baltimore in the AFC North after a 24-17 win over the struggling Tennessee Titans. Brian Leonard carried the ball once for three yards in the win. Clark Harris handled the long snapping duties for Cincinnati who improved to 6-2 on the season.
Jason McCourty continued his stellar season, in the losing effort. McCourty recorded eight tackles (6 solo) for Tennessee who falls to an even 4-4.
After a strong start to the year, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are now struggling. The Bucs fell to the New Orleans Saints by a score of 27-16. Jeremy Zuttah missed the game with a knee injury. George Johnson did play for Tampa Bay but failed to record any stats.
Ryan D’Imperio (Vikings) and Courtney Greene (Jaguars) were on their bye week.
Kevin Haslam (Jaguars), Gary Brackett & Eric Foster (Colts) and Kenny Britt (Titans) are on injured reserve while Howard Barbieri (Texans), Kevin Brock (Raiders), Alex Silvestro (Patriots), and Brandon Bing (Giants) are being used on practice squads.
